ABSTRACT:
Sorption-desorption behaviour of aspartic and glutamic acid on hydrous zirconium oxide (HZO), pretreated with acids (HClO4 and CH3- COOH) was studied under varying experimental conditions. Adsorption was found to depend on pH and the acid used for the pretreatment. It was moderately fast (10 min to 24 h) and athermic. Retarding influence of the anions and their desorption efficacy was in the order: C2O4-2> SO4-2 > NO3-. The distribution coefficients for adsorption and desorption were employed to study the elution behaviour and column chromatography. The study indicates the role of chemical pretreatment in the evokement of ion-exchangeable sites of hydrous zirconium oxide.
