ABSTRACT:
Liposomes are generally considered as models for biological membranes and drug delivery systems when encapsulation and protection of hydrophilic and/or lipophilic substances are required. Marinosomes are liposome based on a natural Marine Lipid extract containing a high poly and saturated fatty acid. Marine phospholipids contain a higher amount of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) mainly eicosapentaenoic (EPA, 20:5n-3) decosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 20:6n-3), which has documented beneficial effect on human health. The health benefits of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid includes reduced inflammatory and coronary heart disease reduced susceptibility to mental illness and improved brain and eye function in infants. These marinosomes have good stability upon large pH change regarding both, their physical and chemical bilayer integrities. When marinos homes containing dietary lipids were administered orally and adequate Leopard water interface was created by mixing of bile salt and Marine phospholipids which plays an important role in the intestinal absorption of dietary lipids. Marinosomes in gastric pH undergoes instantaneous physical aggression, which was partially reversible when the external medium was further neutralized. As a whole, this review pointed out that marinosomes may constitute an attractive material for drug delivery and drug targeting.
