ABSTRACT:
A large number of wild flora of medicinal importance occur commonly in kharun flood plain area, Raipur district, Chhattisgarh Due to lack of social awareness and sprawling attitude of Urban settlement, survival of naturally growing medicinal plants in the vicinity of River banks is in danger. About 15 km stretch of land between Akola and Gomachi has been investigated for wild flora habitat. The data related to vegetation growth, density, Species varieties, plants morphology. Geomorphic units and soil types have been collected and analysed. The study indicates a prolific growth of particular medicinal plants in specific geomorphic unit. It is observed that the villagers are traditionally aware of the medicinal properties and use of these plants in the treatment of skin disease, body pain cough etc. plant organs like leaves, bark, root, seeds are frequently used for preparing medicines. Protective measures for the conservation of medicinal plants of study area are essential. To conserve medicinal plants of the study area, the protection may be provided by declaring the land as herbal zone or oxyzone.
