ABSTRACT:
In sample surveys, the attempt is being made to estimate the unknown population parameters. Often survey practitioners desire to know the estimate of parameters of a small segment of the population called domain or local area, specially when the estimates of the entire population are already available through a large scale survey. Almost in all occasions, estimates for domain posses a large standard error because of their small sample size. While using traditional large sample approximations for obtaining the expressions of bias and mean squared error of estimates, a huge amount of standard error is likely to be involved. This paper takes into account the assumption of large size domains of the population and presents a new approach for deriving expressions of bias and MSE of the estimation procedures. Some estimation strategies are proposed and their expressions are derived using the suggested approach.
