ABSTRACT:
The India's inclusive growth and the prosperity depend on advancing science, technology and innovation. Research involves generation of new knowledge and innovation requires addition of economic value to knowledge. Our central and state governments do sanction huge grants for research projects, talent development and for creation of research infrastructure in national institutes, universities and colleges. The various research promotion schemes of extramural funding agencies aim to nurture rescarch culture in the HEIS by promoting resecarch in newly emerging and challenging areas of science and technology. They encourage faculty members and scientists to undertake research in newly emerging frontier areas of science and technology encompassing multidisciplinary fields. There are many national and private agencies from where we can get research funds. The salient features of various funding agencies, namely UGC, DST, DRDO, DBT, BRNS. ICMR, AICTU, CCOST, MOEF, ISRO, Department of Earth Sciences, ICSSR and ICHR etc, will be described with suitable examples. The opportunities of international funding from agencies, like TWAS, DAAD, Alexander von Humboldt, Fulbright, USIEF, and JSPS will also be discussed.
