ABSTRACT:
Present study provides an account of the vegetation of the proposed Jungle safari area in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The "Nandan Van Zoo & Safari" is planned for next Jungle safari area by the Govt. of Chhattisgarh. This area spans over 202 Ha. The Jungle safari area has been divided into: Herbivore safari, Tiger safari, Bear safari and Lion safari areas, each one of which is called a kraal. Survey for listing of the plants was done for each kraal by walking along a trail, following the line-transect method. The method covered most of the area in each kraal. Study for the flora, around the water body, was done by walking along the shoreline of the water-body. Approximately 77 Plant species, belonging to 35 families occupying different habitat, have been identified during the survey. Aquatic plants like Nymphaea sp, Vallisneria spiralis, Utricularia sp. (Insectivorous plant) grasses like Panicum sp. Scirpus articulates, Herbs like Caesulia axillaris, Sphaeranthus indicus. Shrubs like Lippia javanica, Hyptis uaveolens, Phoenix acaulis, Bambusa vulgaris and trees like Mitragyna parviflora, Anthocephalus cadamba, and Gmelina arborea have been recorded during the survey. This study will form database for further studies.
