ABSTRACT:
The morphometric analysis of the Kulhan nala basin, a tributary of Kharun river, spans in an area of 992..09 sq. km., have been carried out with the help of topographic maps of 1 :50,000 scale. The Kulhan nala flows over a nearly flat and featureless topography consisting of alluvium, laterite, limestone, shale and sandstone. The drainage pattern is dendntic to sub parallel. The analysis were carried out under the linear and areal aspects. The stream number, length, order drainage, density and stream frequency are largly influenced by the geology its structure relief and slope of the terrain. The low value of drainage density as well as of stream frequency indicates slow erosion and low runoff. The shape parameters indicate that the basin is elongated. Karstification and internal drainage in the limestone terrain favour high permeability of the carbonate aquifer. Keeping in view the practical value of this study, an attempt has been made to quantify the Kulhan nala basin forming south eastern part of the chhattisgarh basin.
