ABSTRACT:
Anredera cordifolia is one of the Basellaceae which empirically used in many countries for treating various discases including hypertension, kidney failure, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, skin disease, inflammation, gout, pain, fever, constipation and other diseases. This plant is known as binahong in Indonesia, Dhen San Chi in China, Madeira vine in South America. Anredera cordifolia leaves extract at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight has been proven in our laboratory to repair damaged kidney cells in rat. Besides, A. cordifolia decreased blood glucose level and improved the damaged pancreatic cell in rat. The plant also reduced blood pressure with vasodilation effect by releasing NO on isolated rabbit aortic and blocked beta adrenergic receptor of frog hearth. A. cordifolia also reduced lipid accumulation in endothelial cells of rat.
