Abstract:
Personalization of nutrition advice is often proposed as one of the most
promising approaches. In recent yearn mg of the health intervention research
and methods on the effect of personalization show that advice targeted to an
individu physical parameters, lifestyle and environmental situation is more
effective in influencing their health behavior than gener information. Dietary
intake has been recognized to modulate gene and protein expression, and thereby
metabolic pathway homeostatic regulation, and presumably health and disease. As
functional dietary supplement market grows exponentially the appreciation for
the importance of individual or combination of components in disease prevention
and health is alse increasing. Although the routine practice of genomic
medicines or personalized foods is still several years away, healthcan
practitioners including clinical dietetics and nutritionists need to begin
preparing for the future if they want to maximize the quality and outcomes of
the services they provide. Personalization is all about differences,
differences between peopic between environments, between races and ultimately
combined into the individual phenotype. From practical point of vies.
"personalization' is about groups (or subpopulations) of a certain size
with certain (genetic) traits, but can be discriminated between using other,
relevant, (genetic) traits, "Practical personalization' is conceptualized
in terms of categorizatin opposed to individualization. In terms of diet,
categorization is the formulation of foods or development of dietary advice the
benefit of multiple individuals, who share certain traits.
