Abstract: Chhattisgarh
is one of the centrally located states of India. The state has rich source of
medicinal plants. A large size of population in the state is dependent on
medicinal plants for their health care. The plants contain various bioactive
compounds like steroids, glycosides, alkaloids, flavones, terpenoids etc.,
which act as therapeutic agent against the antigens. Now a day much progress
has been made in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative properties of the
medicinal plants. In the field of herbal medicine, knowledge of tools and
techniques are important for the development and innovation of new herbal
drugs. For the scientific approval of herbal medicine it characterization of
the herbal drug is required from as latest as possible techniques and
instruments. To make herbal medicine acceptable its proper standardization with
standard analytical methods is essential. For standardization, instruments, as
latest as possible should be used. There are a number of instruments helpful in
the elucidation of the structure of herbal medicines, like Soxhlet solvent
extractor, Super Critical Fluid Extractor, HPLC, HPTLC, FTIR, UV-Visible
spectrophotometer, GC-MS, LC-MS, and NMR. This review gives a brief account
about the application and analytical approach of tool and techniques for
screening of herbal medicine.
