Abstract: Bioethanol is the liquid fuel produced from fermentation of renewable biomass. Bioethanol is sustainable and is used as partial gasoline replacement. Bioethanol fucls are technically and economically suitable for internal combustion engines because of its high octane number and antiknock properties. Bioethanol has green house benefits as it reduces the net emission of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and is eco friendly. The lignocellusic biomass is the most abundant and cheap feedstocks mainly composed of cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin. Bioethanol production from lignocellulose requires microorganisms that produce ethanol with a high yield. In the present work isolation and screening of fermentative bacterial sp. from Shorea robusta (Sal) seeds and various morphological and physiological tests were performed. A total of 9 bacterial sp. (B1 to B9) were isolated out of which 6 sp. (B1, B2, B3, B4, B5 and B9) were fermentative. All fermentative bacterial sp. were used for production of bioethanol from Sal seeds, in which B4 sp. gave highest production of bioethanol in comparison to others.
