Biochemical Studies on the Insecticidal Potential of d-Transallethrin, Transfluthrln and Prallethrin in Musca domestica

Abstract:- The housefly, Musca domestica L. (Diptera: Muscidae), one of the most common insects, is intimately associated with human and his surroundings. The strong inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE:  EC 3.1.1.7) is the principal underlying mechanism of action of most of the potential insecticides.  Keeping these facts in view, the present stn-ry investigated the effects of three commonly used repellents d-Transallethrin, 'Iransfluthrin and Prallethrin on the toleraive limit, protein profile and AChE activity in M  domestica. The exposure of these repellents caused significant inhibitio~ of -.;i.e. AChE activity. lt was observed that all the tested insecticides were effective against housefly. The order of the magnitude »f the effect was d-Transfluthrin> Allethrin> Pralletbrin. Least tolerance limit and the highest AChE inhibition were reported in case of Transflutbrin after twenty minute exposure.
