Abstract. : The (ZnS+HgO) binary phosphor system,
activated
with copper and manganese
possess two distinct
colour
emissions
(green
and yellow) when
excited
by 3650A0 UV -radiation.
The
green emission due to copper dominates over
yellow emission in photoluminescence.
The temperature dependent studies of the photoluminescent output have also been made. It is found
that the presence
of hydrogen
as cc-activator promotes the transfer of
energy trom copper centers to manganese centers at high temperature and hence gives favorable response for photoluminescence.
