Abstract : The  Kulhan .nala  basin  located  along  the  eastern  side  of Raipur,  spreads  over  in an area  of  about  ~92.09  sq.km.  The  terrain is more  or less  plain and made of nearly  horizontal   sedimentaries   of Chhattisgarh   supergroup,   comprising   limestone,  shale and sandstone. In general,   the  lithounits   show poor  primary  porosity.  However,  they have  developed   secondary  porosity  and permeability   and locally  act as  good   aquifers  and  as  such  will   also  offer   receptive  sites   for artificial  recharging.A high  degree  of decline  in water  levels  is indicative   of poor recharge and~or a high  degree  of  draft,  is observed  in the  kulhan  nala  basin. It is, therfore,   necessary  to undertake  the work of artificial   recharging of  the  groundwater   reserves   of  the  area  in order  to  meet  the  ever• growing  needs for drinking,   agricultural   and industrial   purposes.  This will  also  help  mitigate  the drought  situations  .caused  due to monsoon failure. The  paper  discusses   the  augmentation    of  groundwater    potential   by Implementing different techniques    of artificial recharging,    keeping in view the  topographic   and geological   aspects  of the  site.

Keywords:  Artificial   recharge,  Kulhan   nala,   Raipur  district.
