Abstract: Studies of momentum, heat and mass transfer on semifluidized
beds in circular and non- circular
cross sections have been gaining considerable attention in the fight
of their industrial applications. A critical
literature review has been made with regard to studies of pressure drops
with some mechanical and dynamic
characteristics across both liquid-solid and gas-solid semifluidized beds. Generalized correlation available in the fields
of momentum, heat and mass transfer provide a reliable basis
to design, operate and apply in practice
the semifluidized beds with greater
confidence. The present paper
summarizes the work done
earlier in the areas of semifluidization with two phase fluid solid contact. Attention
has also been focused on the present
status of industrial importance of semitluidized beds. It is proposed that more extensive
work not only on two phases but also on three
phase semifluidization may be under taken to meet the present industrial requirements.
Key words: Semifluidization, Heat, Mass,
Momentum-Transfer, Pressure drop.
