Abstract. A study is made on
the kinetic salt effect on the acid catalysed
hydrolysis of three unsubstituted
hydroxamic acids of the type RCONHOH
[R=C6H5, 4.CH3O
C6H4, 3-CI C6H4] in various
electrolyte solutions. The observed
salt effects show a general relation between
kinetic salt effect and reaction mechanism.
Key words: Acid catalysis; Hydrolysis; Hydroxamic acids; Salt effect; Benzohydroxamic acid.
