Abstract: The sorpotion-desorptio behavior of arginine
(Arg) and histidine (His) from 90% ethanol on HClO4/CH3COOH- treated alumina of
surface phase pH 3.0-9.0 is described. The elution behaviour and column chromatography
were also investigated to correlate the data. The sorption of Arg and His was found
to depend on the pH of the substrate as well as on the acid
used for pretreatment of the oxide. The sorption was found to Increase in the pH
range 4.0-9.0. The process was moderately fast (between 10 min
and 24 hr) and almost athermic (20°-50°C). Desorption efficacy and retarding influence
on adsorption by cations was in the order: Th4+ > Al3+ > Mg2+
> Na+,The distribution coefficient for edsorption (Kd) and desorption (KD) were
determined, and on the basis of these studies, the elution behaviour and column
chromatography was carried out.
