Abstract. The sorption-desorption behaviour
of the anionic dye Lissamine Green (C.I. 44090) on perchloric acid-treated alumina of surface pH 1.0 -
9.0 was investigated. The adsorption is found to be pH-dependent; thus, the adsorption
decreases with increase
of pH (1.0 - 9.0). Variation
in sorption with time (10 min
- 48
hr), temperature (30° - 60°) and regeneration of the substrates with aqueous electrolytes
is also reported. The retarding influence and the desorption efficiency of the inorganic
anions is in the order: PO4- > C2O42- > SO42- > CH3COO- > Cl- ion-exchange mechanism has been proposed for the process, and the results show the evokement of anion-eitchange
properties of alumina.
Key words. Sorption, desorption, dye, Lissamine green, alumina.
