Abstract. Tests for genetically determined taste sensitivity to
Phenylthiocarbamide and colour-blindness were performed on Sanadhya Brahmins of
Madhya Pradesh. The distribution of taste threshold was observed to be
distinctly bimodal. The frequency of non-tasters gene was observed to be 0.5121
in a sample of 694 individuals (361 males and 333 females). The bisexual
difference was observed to be non-significant. The mean threshold in the pooled
data was observed to be 8.19+/- 0.101 with relatively greater value of D/S
index, i.e. 4.08. The incidence of colour-blindness among 390 males and 396
females has been reported the frequency being 0.51 % in males whereas the
incidence is absent in females. The results have been compared with some
neighbouring populations.
